Symptoms of Opioid Withdrawal — Page 4

Treatments for opioid addiction and dependence

Help is available to make opioid withdrawal less unpleasant and even traumatic. Managing withdrawal includes:

  • Slowly tapering down the drug dosage — gradually decreasing the dose of medication until it's no longer used — under the guidance of your doctor
  • Taking other medications

Doctors sometimes use buprenorphine with naloxone (Suboxone), naltrexone (Vivitrol), or methadone, under specific, monitored conditions to help ease symptoms of opioid withdrawal.
