Essential oils

Essential oils are scents extracted from plants. Some research suggests certain essential oils — including lavender, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, and chamomile — may help with allergy symptoms. For example, lavender reduces inflammation in the airways, which might help allergy sufferers breathe easier. Essential oils themselves, however, can provoke an allergic reaction (often a rash) in people who are sensitive to them.

Note that ingesting essential oils is never safe, as they can cause significant poisoning even in small amounts.
