Symptoms of tract urinary infection

To know whether you need to visit your doctor, look for symptoms of urinary tract infection:

• Discomfort, pain, or burning while urinating
• Abdominal pressure or cramping
• Frequent urination
• Urge to urinate even with an empty bladder
• Low fever
• Cloudy or bloody urine

If children develop urinary tract infections, they may not be able to tell you what they are feeling. To know if your child has a urinary tract infection, look for:

• Change in color, smell, or frequency of urination
• Crying or fussing, especially while urinating
• Unexplained fever
• Vomiting
• Change in appetite

If left untreated, a UTI can affect your kidneys, a dangerous infection known as pyelonephritis. Symptoms of pyelonephritis include:

• Pain in your back or pelvis
• Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
• Blood in your urine
• Chills, fever, or uncontrollable shivering
• Nausea or vomiting
