Body Mass Index (BMI) Tool
Don’t just trust your scale to tell you if you are too heavy. This tool uses not just what you weigh, but also how tall you are. The goal for most people is a score between 18 and 25.

Your score is . Your score is between 18.5 and 25. This is where you want to be. Exercise, eat healthy food, and get enough sleep to stay healthy.
Your score is . Your score says you are too heavy. A high score boosts the chance of developing health problems. Work out more, eat healthy food and get enough sleep to get healthier.
Your score is . Your BMI suggests that you are obese*. A high BMI can put you at risk for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and gallbladder disease. Knowing your BMI may help you to make lifestyle changes to lower your BMI as needed. It’s important for you to try to lose weight, get more exercise, eat a nutritious diet, and get enough sleep.
- You are too slim if you weigh pounds and your BMI is less than 18.5.
- You are in good shape if you weigh pounds and your BMI is between 18.5 and 25.
- You are too heavy if you weigh pounds and your BMI is between 25 and 30.
- You are obese if you weigh pounds and your BMI is 30 or greater. You are morbidly obese if your BMI is over 40.
