What is this medicine?

TERBINAFINE (TER bin a feen) is an antifungal medicine. It is used to treat certain kinds of fungal or yeast infections of the skin.

How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is for external use only. Do not take by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Wash your hands before and after use. If treating hand or nail infections, wash hands before use only. Apply enough product to cover the affected skin or nail and surrounding area. Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or dressing unless your doctor or health care professional tells you to. Do not get this medicine in your eyes. If you do, rinse out with plenty of cool tap water. Use this medicine at regular intervals. Do not use more often than directed. Finish the full course prescribed even if you think your are better. Do not skip doses or stop using this medicine early.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • skin rash, itching

  • blistering, increased redness, peeling, or swelling of the skin

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

  • dry skin

  • minor skin irritation, burning, or stinging

What may interact with this medicine?

Interactions are not expected. Do not use any other skin products on the affected area without telling your doctor or health care professional.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 5 abd 25 degrees C (41 and 77 degrees F). Do not refrigerate. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to terbinafine, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve after 1 week. Some fungal infections can take a long time to be cured. Be sure to finish your full course of treatment.

After bathing, make sure to dry your skin completely. Most types of fungus live in moist environments. Wear clean socks and clothing every day.
