Simethicone Oral suspension

What is this medicine?

SIMETHICONE COATED CELLULOSE SUSPENSION (sye METH i kone) is an agent used before an ultrasound examination. It helps pictures of your upper stomach appear more clearly on the ultrasound. It is not used for the relief of gas.

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth. Do not eat or drink anything for at least 4 hours before your ultrasound examination. You need to drink all of the medicine (400 ml) over a 15 minute period. Tell your doctor or health care professional if you cannot finish all of the medicine.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

• abdominal pain

• diarrhea

• nausea, vomiting

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

• orange-colored stool

What may interact with this medicine?

Interactions are not expected.

What if I miss a dose?

This does not apply; this medicine is not for regular use.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Do not freeze. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• blockage or tear in your intestine or esophagus

• an unusual or allergic reaction to simethicone or simethicone coated cellulose suspension, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

• pregnant or trying to get pregnant

• breast-feeding

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Your condition will be closely monitored while you are receiving this medicine.

This medicine may cause stool to appear orange while the medicine is being cleared from your body. This may last for 1 to 2 days, and is not harmful.
