Acetic Acid; Oxyquinoline; Ricinoleic Acid vaginal gel

What is this medicine?

ACETIC ACID; OXYQUINOLINE; RICINOLEIC ACID (a SEE tik AS id; ox y KWIN o line; ris uh noh LEE ik AS id) is used to create or maintain the acidity of the vagina.

How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is only for use in the vagina. Do not take by mouth. Wash hands before and after use. Read package directions carefully before using. Fill the applicator from the tube as directed in the package directions. Lie on your back with your knees drawn up and insert applicator into vagina as far as it will go comfortably. Press plunger to deposit gel. Remove applicator from vagina. Use your medicine at regular intervals. Do not use it more often than directed. Do not stop using except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

• allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue

• fever

• pain, swelling, or tenderness in the abdomen

• vaginal discharge, itching, or odor

• vaginal pain or continued stinging or burning

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

• mild vaginal irritation or burning

What may interact with this medicine?

• spermicides such nonoxynol-9 or octoxynol

Do not use any other vaginal products without asking your doctor or health care professional.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• an unusual or allergic reaction to acetic acid, oxyquinoline, ricinoleic acid, other medicines, foods, dyes or preservatives

• pregnant or trying to get pregnant

• breast-feeding

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if your symptoms do not start to get better within a few days.

This medicine may make certain birth control devices, such as latex rubber condoms, diaphragms, vaginal rings, cervical caps, or spermicides less effective. This may increase the chance of getting pregnant. A different or additional method of birth control may be needed if you are using this medicine.

Vaginal medicines usually will come out of the vagina during treatment. To keep the medicine from getting on your clothing, wear a mini pad or sanitary napkin. The use of tampons is not recommended since they may soak up the medicine.
