Helping Your Child Become a Joiner

For kids who need a little push to join organized activities, here are some tips:

  • Find out what your child's friends are doing and encourage your child to get involved with those activities.

  • Take your child and his or her friends to sporting events, concerts or plays to spark an interest.

  • Invite your child's friends over to play ball, go swimming or put on small plays.

  • Encourage your child to get involved in activities he or she likes or is good at.

  • Get involved yourself, by becoming a troop leader or coach. But be sensitive to your child's feelings when you speak to him in front of others.
