Vulvar Cancer: Statistics

Some people use statistics to try to figure out their chances of getting cancer or of being cured. It is important to remember that statistics show what happens with large groups of people. Because no 2 people are alike, you can't use this information to know or predict what will happen to you. It is very important that your particular findings be put into context by an expert. Gynecologic oncologists are subspecialists with advanced training in the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of female cancers including vulvar cancer.

These are 2018 statistics about vulvar cancer:

  • Vulvar cancer is rare. About 6,190 women in the United States will be diagnosed with this cancer this year.

  • Vulvar cancer accounts for almost 6% of female reproductive cancers and only 0.7% of all cancer in women.

  • About 1,200 women will die this year from vulvar cancer.
